Volunteer Day opportunities

Over 8,000 Telecom people are looking for opportunities to do something good on their paid volunteer day

We’re looking for opportunities for Telecom people, as individuals and in teams, to spend their paid volunteer day making a valuable contribution for charities, schools and community groups. We want to hear from donee organisations across New Zealand who have challenges, projects and events where our people can make a difference.

Staff have the autonomy to decide what matters most to them and choose how they use their time and expertise to make a difference.

Register your volunteer project with the Telecom Foundation and we will post it here for staff to select.

    Barnardos Early Learning Centres

    DATE: As soon as possible

    3As many people as possible

DESCRIPTION: Barnardos has 27 Early Learning Centres throughout the country providing early childhood education for 0-5 year olds in a caring environment, often in low socio-economic areas. We also have a children's helpline called 0800What's Up. This vital service helps answer calls from 1100 callers a day from children aged 5-18 years and we get 500,000 calls a year. The average caller is 12 years of age, girls and boys. Your volunteering can 'make a difference'. Call Jo now to support the children and communities of New Zealand. There are opportunities at several of the centres to improve facilities and learning for the children throughout the country. You'll be involved in everything from creating vegetable gardens with the kids to helping with maintenance work such as cleaning buildings and staining fences. As an alternative, we have developed a fun, team challenge called 'The Scavenger Hunt' which can be organised from your head office. Call Jo Johnstone to find out more about it. We are trying to create awareness about our services in the community and volunteering projects and community events do just this! Thanks for supporting the children of New Zealand because Children Come First and it is essential to give Children a Voice! These opportunities would suit teams with around 5-20 people. The Telecom Foundation is liaising with the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to confirm the number of volunteers required and clean up dates. We will be in touch with those that register for this event as soon as this information has been confirmed but anticipate the dates to fall within the next fortnight. You must be fit and healthy as you will be required for a full 8 hour day to carry out a manual clean-up (i.e. bucket and spade) on the exposed BOP coastline. Clean up efforts will go ahead rain or shine and times are dependent on tides. Travel time is additional but a bus will be organised from a pick up and drop off location if you live outside the Bay of Plenty region. Please Note: You will receive an automatic email after registering which advises you to also submit your volunteer leave via The Portal ? please don?t do this until the exact date and details have been confirmed by the BOPRC ? we?ll be in touch when this happens.

    Waiwhakareke Ecological Restoration

    DATE: 08/09/2011

    11As many people as required

DESCRIPTION: Along with tropical forests and coral reefs, wetlands are known to be the most precious and productive environments in the world. Yet today all but 1% of Hamilton's native wetlands have vanished, taking with them rare plants and wildlife. Volunteers are joining forces to reverse that trend at a 60 hectare site in the heart of Hamilton. When it is finished Waiwhakareke will be a rich resource for everyone to enjoy - drawing an estimated 85,000 visitors per annum by 2027 and supporting recreation, education, conservation and science. Already Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park has drawn international recognition. It is one of Australasia's Highly Commended ecological restoration projects, as judged by the Global Restoration Network.

    Aspring Leaders Forum

    DATE: 17/07/2011

    1 1 people required

DESCRIPTION: The Aspiring Leaders\' Forum on faith and values attempts to bridge the growing divide between our nation\'s young people and its leaders as they come together in Wellington to debate and discuss the ideas and philosophies of leadership. While Members of Parliament host the Forum, it is about encouraging young people to be better leaders in the areas of society they are engaged in, be it the arts, business, politics or sport. Saturday brought an opportunity to put words into action. A range of business and community servicee were conducted Each small group was assigned to a different project such as serving at an animal sanctuary, the Ronald McDonald house and Habitat for Humanity, among others. It was at this point in our time together that it dawned on many delegates how simple it really is to make a positive impacting difference to anothers\' life. It was conducted in Wellington. https://aspiringleaders.outreach.co.nz/frontend/index.php?Fs=public-front23
