Charities, schools & community groups in New Zealand
At Telecom we have started thinking differently about how to achieve a positive social impact for kids in New Zealand. In launching the Foundation we ask ourselves:
- What if our philanthropic efforts weren’t driven by a sense of duty, but by the knowledge that we have it within our power to move the needle – make a measurable contribution?
- What if we threw out the traditional convention that philanthropy simply equals money?
- What if we developed a model that encouraged and enabled grass roots generosity, and meant everyday people could become ‘philanthropists’ in their own right?
- And what if we could use all of our resources to genuinely effect change in our communities?
Our great hope is that the Telecom Foundation helps answer these questions.

Working together over the years
Telecom has always contributed widely and generously to the community. We know that our people, our customers and other stakeholders want us to be generous and to support the causes they care about.
-
Catalytic philanthropy
We’ve changed our approach. Catalytic philanthropy is a new way of looking at philanthropy and it provides Telecom with a defined focus that will drive its charitable initiatives from now on.

Who is on your board of trustees?
The Foundation has announced the new Leadership Grant which provides a $1,000 donation to donee organisations who have Telecom staff serving at a board of trustees level. We have $200,000 to allocate on a first-come, first-served basis so encourage any Telecom staff on the board of your organisation to enquire about eligibility and the application process.
Eligible Telecom employees can apply for the Leadership Grant today.

Need volunteers?
We’ve given our staff one paid day per annum to work in the community with registered charities and community groups. If you have a project for an individual or a team, register it on the Foundation’s website and we will assist you to connect with the time and skills of our talented employees. Find out more.

Free text to donate service
Since launching in July 2011, the Telecom Foundation has offered a free text to donate service to up to 24 registered charities who are building a better future for Kiwi kids. Spaces for the first year of this service (July 2011 – June 2012) have now been filled and we are no longer accepting new applications.
We look forward to sharing the results of this initiative with you later this year.

We’re matching payroll giving up to $1,000,000
Telecom employees can make donations from payroll to any donee organisation in New Zealand and we’ll match dollar for dollar. We’re supporting a universal payroll giving scheme to ensure our people can give to the causes and organisations that are most important and relevant for them.
